A Roofing Renovation in Chicago’s Graceland West Neighborhood

Written by Barb Bosak on . Posted in Roofing

We recently finished a roofing renovation project that took place in the Graceland West neighborhood of Chicago. The project involved not only the installation of new roofing materials but the replacement of some materials as well.

We added a variety of new materials, including natural slate tiles, copper standing seam panels, and copper gutters, to name just a few. Are you interested in learning more about this project? We are going to discuss some of the highlights below.

Installing Natural Slate Tiles on the Mansards and Turrets

We began by installing new natural slate tiles on the property’s mansards and turrets. The tiles were gray in color, which beautifully complimented the existing brick.

Slate tiles are beneficial not only for their attractive aesthetics but for their incredible protection and durability as well. In most cases, they will last for over 100 years.

Installing New Copper Gutters and Downspouts

In addition to installing new natural slate tiles, we also installed new copper gutters and downspouts. These were fully fabricated in-house, and we successfully matched the client’s aesthetic preferences to a tee.

Copper is a highly durable material that lasts for decades and decades. Plus, it provides a high-end aesthetic.

Installing New Copper Metal Cladding Around the Balcony Door

The balcony door on the south side of the property needed some work. We elevated the space by installing new copper metal cladding, which we produced in-house.

This cladding was used not just for aesthetic purposes, but for added protection as well. It enhanced the area around the door by improving its weather-resistance capabilities, as well as adding extra insulation.

Installing Standing Seam Copper Metal Roofing

The lower roof on the south porch needed to be replaced as well. We added standing seam copper metal roofing to this area, enhancing both its aesthetics and functionality.

Standing seam metal roofing is a lightweight roofing material that provides a great deal of protection. It is a sleek and modern material that’s available in a variety of colors and styles, and it can single-handedly transform the look of a property.

Installing New Copper Metal Fascia Cladding

The southern entrance of the home needed an aesthetic boost as well. We provided this by installing copper metal fascia cladding. This gave the entrance a luxurious new appearance while also providing greater toughness, protection, and durability.

This cladding was entirely fabricated by our team at Conrad Roofing of Illinois based on the client’s and architect’s specifications. Regardless of your style preferences, we can fabricate copper to match a variety of aesthetics.

Understanding the Benefits of Copper

As you can tell, this project heavily featured the use of copper. Now, you might be wondering: what benefits does copper bring to the table?

For one, it’s aesthetically unique. Its shiny and bold color instantly enhances any home or building where it’s installed. As it oxidizes over time, it begins to take on a green patina. This provides a unique old-world aesthetic that’s equally eye-catching.

Copper is also extremely durable. In many cases, it lasts for over 100 years when properly installed by a reputable roofing company. It also provides excellent protection. When it comes to lifespan and durability, few other building materials compare.
